Closure of temporary emergency registration
A reminder that temporary registers for health professionals will permanently close on 31 March 2024.
Emergency registers were introduced as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will close (or have already been closed) by the end of March 2024.
This closure means that professionals will no longer be able to practise with temporary registration or a temporary licence, and will need to join the relevant permanent register if they wish to continue practising.
This applies to the temporary registers of four health professional regulators. Information about registration processes can be found on each individual regulator’s website:
- General Medical Council (GMC)
- General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Affected professionals should contact their employing organisation if they need further advice.
