Guidance for reviewing flexible working policies

Guidance to support staff and employers to successfully embed revisions to Section 33 of the NHS terms and conditions of service handbook.

In June 2021, a joint statement was published from the NHS Staff Council on revisions to Section 33 of NHS terms and conditions of service handbook

To support staff and employers embed these changes successfully, the NHS Staff Council has produced joint negotiations guidance detailing the crucial need for good partnership working to take place between unions and employers to:

  • successfully re-negotiation flexible working policies
  • champion cultural change
  • plan and oversee delivery
  • to engage and educate staff about the changes.

This guidance has been produced to help local joint employer-union partnerships review and agree changes to current policies. It should also be used to reflect the contractual changes and the broader strategic agenda.
