NHS Employers comments on NMC report into the experiences of the nursing and midwifery workforce
Responding to new survey data and the ‘Spotlight on Nursing and Midwifery 2025’ report from the Nursing and Midwifery Council into the experiences of nursing and midwifery professionals, Rebecca Smith, director of staff experience and social partnerships at NHS Employers, said:
“We welcome this report and appreciate the insight it provides into the experiences of the nursing and midwifery workforce.
“The findings underline the dedication of staff while also highlighting serious pressures around workload, burnout, discrimination and patient safety. These issues are unacceptable, and employers remain committed to improving workplace culture, supporting wellbeing, and ensuring every member of staff feels valued and safe.
“We are particularly concerned by the experiences of internationally educated professionals – their contribution is vital, and employers will continue strengthening support and ensuring fair and inclusive treatment.
“The report offers important evidence for workforce planning and retention efforts, and it timely given the focus on the 10 Year Workforce Plan.”
