Director General, People, Department of Health and Social Care

Danny joined the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England in February 2026. 

Prior to joining DHSC, he was chief executive of NHS Employers from November 2014 and served as interim chief executive of the NHS Confederation (of which Employers is part) from 2020 to 2021. 

Danny has worked in the NHS since 1989, first as a porter in an acute hospital and then as a CSV care assistant for clients with learning disabilities.  He became a management trainee in Stoke-on-Trent in 1993 and continued his work in the NHS in Bath and Brighton. He took up his first director post in West Sussex in 2001 and then worked in executive roles in hospitals in Hertfordshire and Nottingham. 

Danny is a Chartered Companion of the CIPD and a member of the ACAS Council (until May 2026).
