Government's offer to the BMA Resident Doctor Committee

On Friday 13 June, the government made an offer to the BMA Resident Doctor Committee intended to rebuild industrial relations.

18 June 2026

On Friday 12 June, the government set out a formal offer to the British Medical Association’s Resident Doctors Committee (BMA RDC) intended to clarify and strengthen the proposal presented in March 2026. Shortly after, the BMA RDC made the decision to cancel this week’s planned industrial action.

The updated offer is centred around the five headline messages of:

  • pay
  • wider support measures
  • access to training places
  • measures to improve the working lives of resident doctors
  • future working arrangements.

You can read the full details on the GOV.UK website.

Next steps

  • The offer will go to a membership referendum and the BMA’s resident doctor members will be able to vote to accept or reject the offer.
  • The referendum will be held from 3pm Thursday 18 June to 12pm Friday 26 June.
  • We will be working with employers and relevant stakeholders to better understand how the deal will be implemented and to highlight any concerns you may have already raised. If you would like to get in contact, please email us.
