HCPC launches consultation on its sanctions policy

Details on the Health and Care Professions Council's consultation and how to have your say on proposed changes to the policy.

11 June 2025

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has published a consultation about its sanctions policy, which is a guidance document that outlines the principles for determining appropriate outcomes of fitness to practise (FTP) cases.

The policy is designed to support panels in making fair, consistent, and transparent decisions, ensuring that regulatory outcomes maintain public confidence and uphold professional standards.

Key areas relate to sanctions imposed for discrimination, breaches of professional boundaries, and sexually motivated misconduct.

The proposed revisions to the policy aim to:

  • improve clarity for panels when applying sanctions
  • support fair and proportionate decision-making in FTP cases
  • reflect recent legal developments and feedback from key stakeholders, and
  • strengthen public protection and maintain trust in the regulatory process.

The consultation closes on 1 September 2025. Full details can be found on the HCPC website.
