Revised occupational health standards for 2023

The professional accreditation scheme for occupational health services has published its revised standards.

19 June 2023

The Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health Service (SEQOHS) standards are benchmarks which occupational health services must meet to receive industry accreditation, and to retain it.

The Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM) oversees the SEQOHS standards, revising them every five years to incorporate legislative changes, latest ethical considerations and best-practice.

Following extensive consultation with stakeholders, the standards have now been revised for 2023. They can be viewed here

The new standards were launched at the joint FOM and Society of Occupational Medicine annual conference on 16 June and will take effect in November 2023.

What is SEQOHS?

SEQOHS is a professionally-led accreditation scheme based on industry standards for occupational health services in the UK and beyond. The accreditation demonstrates that organisations provide a safe, effective, quality occupational health service.

After initial accreditation services must demonstrate they have maintained the standards through an annual SEQOHS assessment.

The standards are categorised into six domains:

1. Governance and finance
2. Resources and processes
3. Outputs and outcomes
4. Information and communication
5. Quality assurance and improvement
6. Sector specific standards (optional).
