Job evaluation data returns
NHS England has written to chief people officers and data submitters regarding their April data collection on job evaluation.
The data collection exercise as a whole is a key part of the work required by the Secretary of State to improve job evaluation (JE) practice across the NHS in England.
There are two layers to the data collection:
- A quarterly return that is currently focused on organisations' board's understanding of JE requirements and work to update job descriptions for nursing and midwifery staff.
- A new annual audit of general JE practices starting in April 2026.
Data from the annual audit will enable organisations to assess their activity against a national benchmark and allows NHS England to understand regional and national performance.
Regional Social Partnership Forums (SPFs) will also have the opportunity to discuss regional returns in their regular meetings.
Employers are reminded of the requirement to work in partnership with trade unions on matters relating to JE.
