Joint industrial action announced by the BMA

Details of the announcement that junior doctors and consultants will coordinate strikes in September and October and other strike announcements.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that its junior doctor members have voted for a further six months of strike action and will coordinate industrial action with its consultant members this September and October.

The strikes will once again be based on Christmas Day levels of cover, meaning emergency care will still be provided.

BMA consultant strike dates

These strikes will once again be based on Christmas Day levels of cover, meaning emergency care will still be provided.

  • 19-20 September - 48 hours
  • 2-5 October - 72 hours

BMA junior doctors strike dates

  • 20 September - strike with Christmas Day levels of cover
  • 21-22 September - full walkouts for 48 hours
  • 2-5 October - strike with Christmas Day levels of cover for 72 hours

Renewed mandate

The renewed mandate for BMA junior doctor members lasts from 14 September until the 20 February 2024.

HCSA junior doctors

HCSA junior doctors in England will strike in a full walkout from 7am on 20 September until 7am on 23 September. Read the HCSA announcement.

London Unite member strikes

Unite the union has announced that NHS workers at four London NHS trusts will take strike action this month in a dispute over safe staffing and pay.

  • Barts Health NHS Trust workers will be on strike from 13-14 September and then from 16–22 September.
  • Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust workers will strike from 13-14 September.
  • East London Foundation Trust workers will strike on 13 September.
  • Guys and St Thomas’ workers will strike on 13-14 September.
