It is crucial that the NHS works to retain skilled and experienced staff in order to deliver high-quality care to patients.

Where staff turnover is high, it can lead to difficulties in providing continuity of care and the ability to meet patient demand by ensuring adequate staffing arrangements are in place. There is no single action that will improve the retention of staff. Instead, retaining staff is the result of the combined actions that are taken by an organisation.

NHS Employers and NHS Improvement are working in partnership to support trusts to improve their retention. Using the combined workforce expertise in both organisations, there is a range of resources and materials available across both websites. Where possible the key retention themes and the content on the websites has been aligned.
