The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group (EDIG) is a national technical group of the NHS Staff Council and works to deliver the equality agenda.

The group comprises of employer and trade union representatives from across the NHS and health care.

The Scottish Government, Welsh Assembly Government and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (Northern Ireland) are also represented on the EDIG.

  • The EDIG works in partnership and prepares an annual work programme which is agreed by the executive of the NHS Staff Council. Part of this work includes reviewing sections of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook to ensure it meets equality legislation and is in line with best practice. The most recent sections that EDIG have reviewed and updated are one to six, which includes sections on pay, progression and overtime.

The group has also reviewed and contributed to the July 2021 Joint negotiating guidance - reviewing flexible working policies.

  • If you work within equality, diversity and inclusion in an NHS organisation and are interested in becoming a member of EDIG, please do get in touch with us to express your interest  by emailing: diversityandinclusion@nhsemployers.org.
