The NHS Staff Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Group (HSWG) works in partnership to support compliance with health and safety legislation and the raising of standards of workplace health, safety, and wellbeing in NHS organisations across the UK. The group promotes a safer working environment for all healthcare staff by promoting partnership working between employers and trade unions across the NHS and promotes best practice across the NHS and independent sector.

HSWG prepares an annual work programme which is agreed by the executive of the NHS Staff Council.  Membership of HSWG is made up of nominated representatives from within the NHS in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, trade union representatives and NHS Employers representatives. Representatives from other organisations include the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), NHS Resolution and The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.
